State Planner

National Bridge Inventory

Every bridge and culvert longer than 20 feet on a public road in North Carolina, as the state, local and federal agencies that own them report them to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) each year: where each one is, the route it carries and what it crosses, who owns it, when it was built and rebuilt, how long and wide it is, its traffic and truck share, the condition of its deck, superstructure, substructure or culvert, whether it is in good, fair or poor condition, its load rating and posting, how vulnerable it is to scour, and the work proposed for it and its estimated cost. Good for finding the poor, posted or closed bridges in a county or on a corridor, the bridges a freight route or detour depends on, and where repair and replacement needs are concentrated.

From the publisher

The following datasets represent bridge data submitted annually to FHWA by the States, Federal agencies, and Tribal governments in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards and the Recording and Coding Guide for the Structure Inventory and Appraisal of the Nations Bridges. Each dataset is submitted in the spring, and may be corrected or updated throughout the year. The data for public highway bridges is considered final and is published on this website by June 15th of each calendar year.
