Sidewalks, Bike Lanes and Paths (OpenStreetMap)

The walking and cycling network of Ohio as mapped by OpenStreetMap's volunteers: sidewalks and crosswalks drawn as their own lines, footways, separated cycleways and shared-use paths, and the streets tagged with whether they have a sidewalk or a bike lane on each side, with surface, width and lighting where mapped. No statewide public inventory carries these. Good for active transportation plans, sidewalk and bike network gaps, safe routes to school, access to transit stops, and miles of facility by type; coverage depends on how thoroughly volunteers have mapped each town.

From the publisher

OpenStreetMap is built by a community of mappers that contribute and maintain data about roads, trails, cafés, railway stations, and much more, all over the world.

OpenStreetMap emphasizes local knowledge. Contributors use aerial imagery, GPS devices, and low-tech field maps to verify that OSM is accurate and up to date.

OpenStreetMap is open data, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF). How this table is made

© OpenStreetMap contributors. Read from Geofabrik's extract of OpenStreetMap for Ohio with GDAL's OpenStreetMap driver, keeping only the tags in the table below. A line (an OpenStreetMap way) is kept when it is highway=footway, highway=cycleway or highway=path (sidewalks and crosswalks drawn on their own are footways tagged footway=sidewalk or footway=crossing), or when it is any other built road carrying a sidewalk or cycleway tag, on one side or both. Paths mapped as areas (plazas) and roads not yet built are not included. A side's sidewalk or bike lane is read from its own tag (sidewalk:left), else from the tag for both sides, else from the tag for the whole road. Lengths are measured on the earth's surface when loaded. No other tags are loaded, and Geofabrik's extracts carry no mapper names. Each row is one OpenStreetMap way, identified by its type and id, so it can be looked up on openstreetmap.org.
